10/08/2023 - National Showcase - Visalia, CA John is an athletic 6ft 1/180 1B/OF in the 2025 class. On the dirt, he shows solid pre-pitch movement and active feet. He centers his body to the baseball and flashed a quick glove. Uses a 3 qtr. slot and makes accurate fees to 2B on his turns. Working to sink his hips will allow his glove more freedom to make hop adjustments. On the grass, he stays behind the baseball and takes solid routes. Makes accurate throws to the cut-off and working to stay in his legs and stay direction will allow for further carry and accuracy to the bag. At the plate, he begins in a squared stance and gains a short stride. Shows quick hands (86 exit velo) and flashed pull side pop. Bat speed is explosive and working to shorten his swing will put his speed well into the 90 velo range. Overall, John is a gifted athlete and with one more year of development, he can blossom into a next level prospect.

02/27/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Visalia, CA John is an athletic versatile player in the 2025 class. He plays 1B/OF and shows good athletic actions at both positions. In the infield at 1B, he shows good bag awareness and glove presentation. Keeps active feet and has a good first step. In the OF, the first step trait translates, as he does a good job getting behind each fly ball, and making the routine plays. As his speed improves, the quick first step, and natural game awareness will help him open up his range at both positions making him a plus defender. At the plate, he shows an athletic stance. He has a line-drive approach with good bat speed and keeps himself working to the opposite field. His current fast and fluid swing will benefit from a better swing plane that will come with reps and added strength as he fills out the body. With 3 years to continue to develop his skills and add to his versatility, he has the makings of a player with a good skill set that can play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
