05/02/2010 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Jonathan lowered his 60 time at the Selden event from 7.45 to 7.30. He is a lanky, 2-way player that continues to perform equally on the mound and in the INF. Jonathan has an idea on the hill, he has good balance, and is in the zone with his pitches. He has a 2-seam FB with movement and continues to touch 79 MPH. Added arm strength, and overall command of his pitches should help numbers continue to climb. At SS, Jonathan shows good athleticism, soft hands, and fields from the right side. He makes plays on balls hit his way, and throws accurately to his target. An improved backhand and a quicker exchange will help his INF abilities. Offensively, Jonathan has good balance and he tracks the ball well. He has a level swing and sprays the ball to all fields. More lower 1/2 and a shorter stroke should help hitting and power climb.

08/23/2009 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Dennett continues to show steady play and improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an average runner at 7.45. He will benefit by staying on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Hands are soft, clean, and sure in making the plays. At the plate, swing path is level and he shows a feel for the barrel. He works to keep hands inside the ball to use all fields. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-74 and he needs to get on a long toss program to build more arm strength, raising velocities. We have seen him at 75-78 mph in a previous outing. He works on a downhill plane, creating tough angles on hitters. Breaking ball has improved now showing as a slightly above average pitch, while displaying 11/5 shape with loose spin. Slider shows a tight shape but he needs to throw it harder. Changeup is currently an average pitch.

07/14/2009 - Cape Cod Training 2009 - Week 2 Jonathan is a young two-way player at SS and on the mound with a solid average frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Currently, he projects best at SS. Foot speed is below average and he will need to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active but needs to come get the baseball, playing through with his feet and hands. Defensive abilities are average at SS. Arm strength is slightly above average showing some carry across the diamond. He will benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, raising velocities. At the plate, hitting abilities and power are average. He shows a level swing path that is direct to the baseball, but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential at the plate with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 71-73 mph. Off speed pitches are near average and need further development to be quality pitches at the next level. With 2 years to further develop, Dennett has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
