12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Fouts continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a solid 7.37 runner. Defensive grades in the OF have improved to well above average as he takes proper routes / angles and works to get behind balls well, playing through with momentum to his target. Throws display accuracy and carry into his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, Jonathan shows a balanced approach with rhythm. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side as he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields and improve hitting grades. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-76 mph on a downhill plane. Breaking ball shows potential as being a quality pitch with 11/5 shape with sharp breaking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable.

09/23/2012 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA Jon is a player who has shown consistency in his overall skills. At this time he projects to be more of an outfielder displaying an aggressive approach with active feet. He shows a loose arm action and accurate throws. He can continue to focus on balls over his head and working on the balls of his feet. On the mound, Jon has good command of his pitches with his curveball being his top secondary pitch with 10/4 power action. He has a good feel on the mound and can work on building arm strength through long toss to increase velocity. At the plate, his swing looked solid with a strong lower half and the ability to use the entire field. He can continue to focus on a smoother load to improve grades.

12/27/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 2 Jonathan showed well in the OF and got some time it he mound during Pirate City.  Defensively, Jonathan has good range, a quick 1st step, and he covers ground well.  He makes plays, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a good crow hop with accuracy to his target.  If Jonathan can improve his pre-pitch actions, and play more through toward his target, defensive numbers can get even better.  On the mound, Jonathan has a FB that touches 74 mph, and he works in good balance and tempo.  He mixes his pitches well and fields his position properly.  At the plate, Jonathan has good balance, a square stance, and he keeps his hands above his shoulders.  He makes consistent contact, and he gets good extension through the ball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
