02/02/2014 - College PREP - Houston, TX Jonathan is a lean, athletic OF that will graduate in 2016. Defensive abilities in the OF are slightly above average as he displays smooth/clean actions. He utilizes his athletic feet well in taking proper routes/angles to track balls down. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program and work to get rid of the baseball quicker to improve arm grade. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with balance and he loads well. Hands are loose and makes consistent contact, working to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he learns to level out swing path and finish swing, creating extension. Power numbers will improve as he learns to utilize his lower half more. With 2 years to further develop, Jonathan has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
