09/19/2010 - College PREP - Oklahoma City, OK Jon showed similar skills in his game during his last workout in Edmond, OK. He is an athletic OF with quick defensive actions and good body control. He gets to the ball well, squares his body, and has a quick release to his target. If Jon can smooth out his footwork and continue to add arm strength, defensive abilities can continue to improve. At the plate, Jon has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He has a good set-up, quick hands, and a middle approach. Jon makes good use of his lower 1/2, and if he can loosen his grip and avoid drifting, solid offensive grades will get even better.

04/25/2010 - College PREP - Cedar Hill, TX Jon made a big speed improvement, lowering his 60 time to 7.15 and his home to first time to 4.25. Jon really showed comfort in his ability from the outfield and infield. As a first basemen, he shows solid arm strength and accuracy. He showed good range to his glove side. He handles the double play ball with confidence. He knows how to stay behind the baseball in the outfield and attack the right hop in an explosive manner. Would like to see him stay fluid and smooth as he approaches all fly balls and ground balls. Offensively, he displayed good rhythm in his load, which put him into a good hitting position. His barrel accuracy was good when the extension was visible in his swing. Overall, a good showing with a lot of time to keep improving as a 2011 graduate.

10/21/2009 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic - 2009 Jon continues to show consistent skills from event to event which will allow him to be successful at the next level. In the OF, great reads off the bat allowed him cover lots of ground and take proper routes to balls in the gap. Made some great diving plays during game. Fielded ball on proper side as he played thru aggressively. Took a good crow hop as he gains ground to make accurate throws. Stringent long toss program will help improve velocity and carry on ball. At times, plays little too deep. At the plate, had an aggressive approach at the plate. Stayed closed with front side with level swing thru zone produced good extension thru ball. Showed the ability to hit ball to all fields since he had an opposite field approach. Will utilize lower half more as he keeps front hip closed. Had a great attitude and hustled throughout the whole event.

08/23/2009 - College PREP - Oklahoma City, OK Jon is an OF/1B who brings a good average size high school frame to the diamond. In the OF, Jon gets online with his strides and has average carry when he throws, and he takes good angles to the ball. He would become a better OF by getting behind the fly ball. At 1B, Wilson has good rhythm and accurate throws. He would benefit from widening his stance when fielding and by speeding up his exchange from glove to throwing hand. As a hitter, Jon stands in nicely; he makes contact, and has an adequate amount of bat speed. Recommendations as a hitter for Jon would be to get more level through the ball, shorten up his bat load a bit, and to stay tall on his back side.

07/31/2009 - Pirate City World Series - Session 1 Jon continues to show steady improvement with his baseball abilities. At the plate, produced good trigger which allowed him to have direct hands to hitting zone. Kept a short compact swing as it was level thru zone. Demonstrated gap-to-gap power as he hit balls to all fields. Power will improve as he utilizes lower half properly. Showed good instincts and make up that will allow him to be successful at the next level.

11/07/2008 - West Coast Select Training Improved his 60-yard dash from 7.66 to 7.40. Arm strength up from 38 to 42, fielding up from 38 to 40. Hitting and power solid average, same as last time we saw him.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
