07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Smith continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Defensive abilities at 1B have also improved, now showing well above average. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / clean as he consistently shows the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. At the plate, right handed hitting as improved as well, now showing well above average hitting abilities from both sides of the plate. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered. He works to stay inside the ball and utilizes all fields. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 75-76 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with fading action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable.
