06/22/2010 - College PREP - Houston, TX Jose is an average sized Catcher that will graduate in 2011. Behind the plate, Jose has a good base, stance, and a relaxed approach. He has quick feet when blocking, good form, and an overall good idea. He has a decent exchange and throws accurately to 2nd base. If Jose can avoid stabbing when receiving, improve lateral movements when blocking, and not stand up when throwing, overall defensive grades can improve. Offensively, Jose has okay balance and good bat speed. He has an active top hand, knows the zone, and has pop to the pull side. Jose makes good use of his lower 1/2, and if he can avoid wrapping the bat and level off his swing, we could see a spike in offensive numbers.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
