Official Scouting Report

  • OFPosition Projection

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Foot speed continues to show as Joseph's best tool. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet in displaying range in running down balls in the OF. On the bases, he uses speed to put pressure on defenses with his aggression and instincts. At the plate, D'Annunzio shows a level path as he generates bat speed, utilizing the entire field. He shows a lot of upside offensively.

07/25/2009 - Team One North 2009 Joe continues to show steady improvement as a baseball player. At the plate, showed excellent bat speed and barrel accuracy while hitting the ball to all fields. As he relaxed, he showed quick hands to hitting zone. Demonstrated good balance with short level stroke thru hitting zone. In the OF, had quick lateral movements which showed with excellent foot speed. Played thru balls aggressively as throws were accurate as he took momentum towards target.

06/03/2009 - Under Armour Southeast Regional Tournament - 2009 Joe performed extremely well at this event especially by going 5-9 at the plate. He also improved his arm, fielding, and hitting grades. In the OF, he had no fear with good instincts when he went for every ball. Took proper angles to get in proper fielding position. Played thru all balls that allowed him to get into proper position to throw. All throws were accurate with good loose action and carry on ball. At the plate, had excellent hand speed that produced bat speed. Was able to hit the ball to all fields with good extension through ball. Showed some gap-to-gap power. Had proper balance and transfer of weight. Would like to see him shorten his swing path a little. Joe was a team player throughout the tournament.

01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Joe continues to show steady improvement in his baseball abilities with an outstanding body that does show future projection as it continues to physically mature. He ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.75 runner and showed off his quick, athletic feet on the base paths taking the extra base. Feet are active and aggressive in this defensive play in the OF. Arm strength is above average but does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and carry on throws. At the plate, D'annunzio continues to show above average ability and power. He utilizes the entire field by keeping his hands inside the baseball as indicated by his 3B in the opposite field gap. Joe has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his abilities and the way he plays the game.

12/27/2008 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2008 D'Annunzio is an athletic and talented all around player. He runs well (though we have seen better than the 7.00 60-yd dash he posted at this event), is capable of playing all three outfield positions, has a strong and accurate arm, showed bat speed and gap power at the plate, and has good plate discipline and strike zone knowledge. Overall, an excellent combination of skill and ability - he has a bright future, and should be a strong follow for many college programs.

07/19/2008 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Joseph D'Annunzio is a young player who has ability and potential. In the OF, Joseph shows range as he takes great angles to the ball. A good long toss program will help increase arm strength, but he plays through the ball and he is aggressive. At the plate, Joseph has a level bat path with bat speed and some pull side power. He crushes the ball and has a simple short approach to the ball. Joseph is a talented player with plenty of time to improve and impress coaches.

07/05/2008 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Joseph is an athletic outfielder with plus tools. Defensively, he shows good footwork to the ball and into his strong throws. Although, he has a stiff arm-action, he gets great spin and carry on this throws. At the plate, he shows good fence power as he has solid bat speed. His barrel accuracy is somewhat consistent, and he will benefit by using his hands more into his swing. Overall, Joseph displays a couple of very good tools for his age. He should continue to develop and gain plenty of attention from college coaches.

01/11/2008 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2008 We saw athleticism out of Joe similar to what we have seen in the past. 60 yd time has improved to 6.84 and he continues to demonstrate good carry with an accurate arm from the outfield. He plays through aggressively as well, but would like to see him stay behind the fly ball more consistently. At the plate he stands in well and squares it up fine. There is life in his hands but he chokes it a bit. Joe is a young kid with some impressive raw athleticism. With some mechanical work he is going to be a solid all-around player.

12/16/2007 - College PREP - Hightstown, NJ Joe is an extremely athletic individual with tons of potential. Has above average arm strength for his position and displays accuracy and carry behind every throw. Mechanics are sound defensively and has the ability to get body into a strong fielding position. Gets rid of the ball quickly. Knows what he is doing in the outfield. Swing is quick and has good bat speed. Ball jumps off the bat. Fires hips well, but needs to work on a better load to increase timing. Overall, Joe has the potential to play at the next level and still has another three seasons to impress coaches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
