03/10/2013 - College PREP - Oklahoma City, OK Josh is a talented, athletic infielder with a solid set of tools. He is an instinctual defender at SS getting good reads, moving his feet well and showing sure hands. His exchange and release are quick, and he accurately delivers the ball to 1B with some low-effort arm strength. At the plate, Josh shows a simple, repeatable stroke with an excellent bat path. He has very few holes in his swing. He flashes some leverage power to the pull side and makes consistent solid contact. A little more looseness and fluidity to his stroke could add some bat speed and provide more rhythm to the overall approach. Josh has a bright future as a dependable infielder who will be a major contributor on offense. Some refinements will continue to help his development which should result in major contributions at the next level.

07/29/2012 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament Josh is an athletic SS that will graduate in 2014. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 7.10 60 time. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in attacking ground balls and plays through well. Lateral movement is a plus as he displays range in the MIF and he shows a quality backhand. Glove action is soft / clean / sure as he presents out front well in making all the plays. He shows big play potential and gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry on his throws. At the plate, Garbrecht shows a balanced / quiet setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Power is best to the pull side as he needs to work to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields and improve hitting grades. Power number will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be. With 2 years to further develop, Josh has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
