03/25/2018 - College PREP - Madison (NYC), NJ Josh is a big, muscular OF/RHP who has a tremendous future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best displaying outstanding hitting / power potential through a tall / athletic setup. Hands are quick (91 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. In the OF, he displays smooth / athletic actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads ball well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 80-83 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run but throws too hard to fastball velocity. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Josh has the making of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
