04/02/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Joshua continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. He only showed at SS at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate is where he improved the most, now displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Lower half works well through the swing and he has strength, displaying gap-to-gap pop. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. In the MIF, he displays quick / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turn of the double play. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate with carry across the diamond and he displays the ability to throw from multiple arm slots.

04/10/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Joshua continues to develop and make great strides in his game. Defensively, he displays active footwork and moves around the GB into a square/athletic fielding position. He presents his glove, fields the ball out in front and fires strong throws with carry across the diamond. With the bat, this righty stands in well with centered balance. He remains compact throughout his swing, squares the ball up and sprays it to all parts of the field. On the mound, this RHP continues to fill up the zone with strikes. FB has arm-side run which will get in on the RHH's. Breaking ball shows to be his best off speed pitch with 11/5 shape. He has sound mechanics and repeats his delivery well. Added velocity will come as he works to drive off the rubber with more of his lower 1/2. Only a 2019 grad - Joshua is a talented 2-way player who has upside on the diamond.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Josh showed some of his best tools to date, hitting 73 MPH on the bump with exceptional feel for his stuff. On the rubber, his FB showed tail and sink from 71-73, he spun a 10/4 CB from 59-61 with tight spin, and threw a CH from 61-62. He was mechanically sound, balanced, and showed an ability to repeat with clean arm action and front side extension. He pounded the zone and was very composed, controlling what he could control with no excess emotion. Defensively in the INF, he had great pre-pitch footwork to get ready to make plays with efficient feet and body control. He got his hands in front to field and was sure with the glove. He had smooth actions, quick hands, and threw with momentum to first. At the dish, he was athletic to get ready to hit with activated hands, and his barrel found the ball frequently. He worked to use more of his lower half and worked to stay through the baseball with his top hand for added extension. In all - Josh is ready for high school ball this coming spring, especially with a fall and winter to boost consistency to his promising tools.

03/22/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Bowie, MD Joshua is a 2-way player as a RHP/2B who has a tall frame. On the mound, this righty has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and loose/free arm action. FB ranges from 66-69 mph while showing slight arm-side run. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape as he works it to both sides of the dish. He works to stay on top, drive downhill and work in-line toward the plate. At 2B, Joshua hustles into an athletic fielding position. He is sure handed and gathers well. With the bat, this RHH shows a square setup with good balance. He has rhythm and swings on a level path, driving the middle of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. More lower 1/2 drive
3. Stay on top of CB
Defense
1. Play through ball
2. Glove presentation
Offense
1. Level out swing path
2. Increase bat speed

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
