05/19/2013 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX In Josh's most recent Factory outing he showed an increase feel for his off-speed pitches. On the mound, he reached a new high velocity of 73 MPH with his change-up being his most effective pitch - 66-68 MPH with sink. Eliminating his arm wrap will clean up his back arm action - allowing for velocity jumps and less arm strain. In the outfield, Josh plays behind and through balls with active feet. His arm plays better than his velocity shows with the use of his body momentum. Offensively, the lefty is swinging with decent bat speed and good barrel accuracy. He is direct with his hands and sprays the ball around the field. Josh projects best in the outfield with an ability to hit from the left side.

10/28/2012 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX In Joshua's first Factory outing he showed as a two-way player, playing the outfield and pitching. In the outfield, he has long/loose arm action and throws from the high 3/4 arm slot with a quick/clean exchange. He has sure hands, active footwork, and covers the gaps while fielding the ball athletically and low. He is aggressive to ground balls with plus glove side range. He will benefit from implementing a throwing program and working on glove control, keeping it above the eyes on fly balls, being able to see the catch and play through the ball. On the mound, he throws three pitches from the high 3/4 arm slot with the same long/loose arm action, tall balance point, on time separation, level shoulders, all while staying in line to the dish. He has effortless arm action but needs to work on his finish and landing more athletically on the balls of his feet. Offensively, he has a tall, closed setup, fast bat speed, makes hard contact, has an on-plane/line-drive swing path with pull side mentality. He gets great extension through contact while utilizing his lower half fully. Learning contact points and using the entire field will help him become a better all around hitter. Overall, Joshua projects well as an outfielder that can swing it, and a left handed pitcher, that with some mechanical work and more concentrated bullpens could be a factor as well.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
