01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) JP is a talented backstop who put his skills on display at the Pre-Season All-America Tournament. Behind the plate, he sits in low with athletic actions, flexion and sway. He tracks pitches into a soft mitt, sticks the ball and frames well. Lateral actions are quick as he gets around pitches in the dirt and centers/deadens the ball in front. He is quick to replace he feet with a clean transfer putting throws to 2B right on the bag. Offensively, this lefty shows an open stance with fluid rhythm to load. Swing is quick as he whips the barrel to and through the zone with + speed. The ball explodes off of his barrel as he hits it where it's pitched and sprays the entire field. LHH catchers who have power are a hot commodity and JP will make an immediate impact at the next level.

10/17/2020 - Fall Pro Training Experience - Nor Cal (HS) JP continues to show as a top prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.31 runner. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.00 with accuracy and on line carry (89 mph velocity) to his target. Receiving / blocking skills shows as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, hitting abilities are excellent with pro level power potential. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing (95 mph exit velocity) and shows a feel for the barrel. He has an excellent event at the plate, going 4 for 4 with a 2B and BB. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/06/2020 - All-In Membership - Stockton (Sacramento), CA JP is a pure catch and throw backstop who also will make an impact with the bat. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. Quick lateral movements allow him to center/deaden pitches in the dirt off of a soft chest. Runners will not want to test his cannon for an arm (86 mph velocity) with impressive pop times of 2.02. Offensively, he continues to shine with outstanding hitting abilities with pro level power potential. He has athletic/smooth actions with fluid rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation and delivers the barrel with leverage, resulting in a barrel explosion (94 mph exit velocity) with the ball screaming off of his barrel. JP has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the top collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
