01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Seay is an offensive 2B with sub-seven speed. He posted 6.88 in the 60 yard dash this event, only slightly off the 6.85 we've seen from him previously. At the plate, he hit from an athletic stance and launched to a solid hitting position. Hands worked back, stride landed soft and square. He showed bat speed, made a lot of hard contact, and got extension out front. Drove the ball from gap to gap. Was at his best when he stayed in the middle of the field, here he was able to maintain better rhythm and balance all the way through his move. Defensively, he surrounded the ball well and played through it well into a good exchange. He played low but was inconsistent with his glove action, tended to get a little stiff and deep. Arm action was a bit restricted, and though throws were accurate he cut them off out front. Overall, the bat is interesting and he runs enough to potentially move to the OF if deemed necessary.

07/13/2012 - 2012 Team One South Showcase JR is an athletic second baseman with an accurate arm. In the infield he has quick feet that allow him to make efficient lateral movements and gets rid of the ball quickly when turning two. His defensive abilities should continue to develop as he learns to be more aggressive on the ball. At the plate he has strong balance and quick hands that get good extension through contact. His offensive tools should continue to improve as he learns to maintain a strong front side as he makes his move to the ball. As a 2013 graduate, JR has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.`

12/27/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 2 Seay showed similar abilities as we had previously seen in Birmingham, AL. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.85 60 time. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He displays soft hands and works to get rid of the ball quickly through a clean transfer / exchange. His throws are accurate from a low slot as he needs to build more arm strength and raise his arm slot to improve carry. At the plate, JR shows an athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He needs to work on keeping hands inside the ball to utilize all fields to improve hitting grades. His lower half works well through the swing with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered.

10/16/2011 - College PREP - Hoover (Birmingham), AL JR is a broad, athletic 2B with well above average foot speed as indicated by his 7.11 60 time. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks and plays through with his body. Hands are soft, sure and presented out front displaying a solid glove action with an accurate arm. For defensive grades to improve he needs to get on a long toss program to build more arm strength. He has an idea with his play and actions in the MIF. At the plate, Seay continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball with plus barrel accuracy, displaying gap to gap power. A 2013 graduate, JR has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
