Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

08/09/2010 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Juan participated in Team One Northeast as a Catcher and he switch hit during his time there. Behind the plate, Juan does a nice job blocking and receiving the ball and he handles his Pitchers well. He has a decent exchange, he works to gain ground, and he throws accurately to his target. Juan is currently a better hitter from the right side as he approaches his Junior year. He has good balance, a level swing, and he flashes some barrel accuracy. He can improve from the right side with more aggressiveness and more direct hands to the baseball. From the left side, Juan has a wide set-up, a level swing, and he makes okay contact. He will need to quicken his bat, quiet his hands, and improve his barrel accuracy in order to further improve.

02/16/2010 - National Tryout - Freeport (Long Island), NY Juan showed similar OF skills in Freeport NY as he did back in 8/09. At this workout, he also showed his abilities on the mound. Juan is an athletic, wirey player with a bright upside. He currently projects better in the OF than on the mound, but still has plenty of time to improve at both positions. In the OF, Juan has good hands and footwork and is aggressive to the baseball. He works efficiently, keeps his feet active, and he gets rid of the ball quickly. Juan's throws are accurate to his target and have life and carry on them. On the mound, Juan's FB touches 80 MPH and he shows good glove side lead. He has a good presence, good coil, and he uses his lower 1/2 well. Juan has an aggressive finish, and if he can avoid throwing across his body, and not fly open, abilities on the mound can get better. Offensively, Juan has good balance and bat speed. He is an aggressive hitter who can hit to all fields, and has pop in his bat. Looser overall actions should help hitting grades improve as he continues to grow and mature.

08/22/2009 - College PREP - Purchase, NY Juan is a young, 2012 graduate that shows as an OF with a lean, athletic looking body that is well suited for the position. Foot speed is solid average and he needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active and aggressive in taking proper routes and angles in tracking down balls in the OF. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Action are loose and easy displaying near above average defensive abilities in the OF. Arm strength is above average showing life, carry, and accuracy on his throws. He needs to work on staying on top to provide more carry. At the plate, hitting abilities and power are near above average through an aggressive approach. He sits in well, showing quick hands that generate bat speed to and through the baseball. He shows a solid feel for the barrel and works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He will hit at the next level. With 3 years to further develop, Adorno has the makings to be a special type player that will get looks from all coaches and scouts.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
