11/22/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Gambrills, MD Justin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.10 runner. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Pop times showed in 2.40 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sink. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

06/07/2019 - College Recruiting Day - Columbia, MD Justin is a tall athletic RHP/C prospect who will graduate in 2022. On the mound Justin has a presence with his height. He possesses a nice 3/4 arm angle throughout the ball and could easily develop elite velocity given his body tangibles. His fastball ranges from 70-72 with some tail given the arm angle. His slider ranges from 61-63 with good movement. With his change-up he ranges from 57-60 in which he guides the ball in by slowing his delivery and arm, something that would need some work. Behind the dish, Justin has soft hands when receiving the baseball. With his pop-time being 2.30 he has areas to grow as he comes out of his stance by stepping to the bag like a pitcher rather than shifting his hips and legs around. Where Justin lacks with his footwork he more than makes up for it with his accurate and strong arm placing the ball right on target to the baseline/second base. At the plate, Justin starts with a semi-open stance and relaxed arms. Justin would need to work on not wrapping his arms around his head to get the barrel through the zone quicker. Overall, we are excited to see this 2022 graduate progress throughout his career and contribute at the next level with his given size and baseball knowledge.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
