01/27/2018 - College PREP - Myrtle Beach, SC Justin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.28. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. At 3B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on the backhand play. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph. Fastball showed a range of 77-80 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/16/2016 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 2 Justin is a lean 3B/RHP who will graduate in 2019. At 3B, feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through a low approach. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness. At the plate he shows a closed setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing the whole field. Power is best shown to the pull side and will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 68-77 mph with arm side run. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 2 years to further develop, Justin has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
