  • SS/OFPosition Projection

10/28/2018 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX Justin is a thin and athletic 2019 utility prospect. At SS, Justin is on time with his prep step, anticipates the ball off the bat, and presents a low/early glove. He makes the routine play and has a clean exchange. In the OF, Justin is on time with his prep step, takes good routes to the ball, and creates momentum in his lower half when throwing to the plate. At the plate, Justin starts in a squared stance, creates backside rotation with his lower half, and hits off a firm front side. He has a middle approach and hits the ball to all fields. Justin will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

10/29/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Corpus Christi, TX Justin is a long, athletic (6'1, 165lbs) two-way prospect who is currently more advanced as a shortstop. He has advanced feel to hit with the ability to find the barrel consistently and stay fluid to hit any pitch in any spot. He loads to a power position and strides on time to launch through the zone with fast bat speed. His lower half generates power to the pull side as he works on a direct path to the ball, making consistent, hard contact. At short, he shows smooth actions to get ready pre-pitch and to work aggressively to the ball. He funnels everything in to center with soft hands and has a clean exchange to make accurate throws and quick feeds. On the bump, this right hander pounds the zone with a three-pitch mix including a low 70's fastball, a 10-4 curveball with good shape and a knuckleball with tumble. He can throw his secondaries for strikes and is effective working backwards and keeping hitters off balance. A long toss program will help free up his arm action and add velocity and movement to his stuff. Justin is an intriguing prospect we look forward to watching develop.

05/21/2017 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Justin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, is where he has improved the most through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path and late explosion. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. In the MIF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft /sure but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He maintains eyes on target and has good rhythm. Fastball showed a range of 68-70 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

05/22/2016 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Justin continues to progrès on the diamond. At SS, he shows active prep footwork and moves well around the GB from right to left. He picks out the hops, funnels smooth and makes strong/accurate throws across the diamond. Offensively, this righty shows a balanced setup with rhythm to load. He squares the ball up consistently and drives the middle of the field. Added power will come if he can work to engage more of his lower 1/2. On the mound, Justin has smooth separation and stays directional toward the plate. FB tops out at 70 mph with slight arm-side run. Continuing to develop his off-speed will help to improve overall effectiveness on the mound. Justin (2019 grad) has upside with still time to develop.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Harris showed only at SS at the event and has improved his baseball abilities since the last time that we saw him. At the plate is where he has improved the most through an open / athletic setup. He tracks the ball well with hands working through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, he plays with a lot of energy as he works to square balls up. He moves well laterally and shows a solid backhand. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more and presents hands more out front. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker, is very coachable, and a very respectful young man.

05/31/2015 - Interactive Video Program - San Antonio, TX Justin is an athletic R/R 2-way player as a SS/RHP. Defensively at SS, he shows active prep footwork moving well on the balls of his feet. He has good lateral range and can make the plays to his glove-side and backhand. He presents his glove and fields the GB out in front. With the bat, Justin has rhythm to load with good hand separation. He whips the barrel through the zone and connects, hitting line drives. On the bump, this righty throws a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, SL) from a 3/4 arm slot. He works to a tall balance point and maintains level shoulders, staying directional toward the dish. He works to stay on top of his FB as it ranges from 65-68 mph. Curveball has 10/4 shape (51-56 mph) while slider has similar action to CB as he throws it for strikes. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

1. Lower 1/2 drive
2. Bat speed
3. Extension

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
