Official Scouting Report

  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

04/02/2017 - College PREP - Sanford (Orlando), FL Karsun has a promising future on the diamond and he continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 78 mph. Fastball showed a range of 73-78 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late / sharp break and shows as a quality pitch. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. He throws a split finger that shows slight tumbling action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 1B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure but will benefit by presenting more out front. Feet are active as he attacks balls, playing through well. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally, covering a lot of ground. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved as well through a closed setup. Hands area quick and work through a level swing path. Lower half works well and works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered.

04/17/2016 - College PREP - Tallahassee, FL Karsun continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, he shows a low approach and squares balls up with body. Hands are clean and he shows the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid getting the ‘in between' hop. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter but projects better from the right side. Hands are loose and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Swing path is level as he shows a line drive type approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. Fastball showed a range of 68-73 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual downward break. Changeup shows tailing action but slows arm speed, tipping pitch to hitters. Gaining more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in further development on mound.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Karsun is a switch hitting LHP/1B that showed consistent skill on all sides of the baseball. On the hill, he threw his FB with tail from 67-68, spun a 1/7 CB from 58-60, and showed a tailing CH from 55-57. He had good balance in his mechanics, with clean arm action and a repeatable tempo. He kept his eyes on the target to deliver and finished with his glove inside his body. Defensively at 1B, he made plays and showed some feel for the glove. At the plate, he hit with similar ability from both sides, with some barrel accuracy and feel for launch. He was balanced through his swing and worked to have more strength behind the barrel by implementing his lower half. All in all - Karsun is entering his freshman year with ability to continue adding strength to as he preps for his spring season in high school.

02/15/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Sanford (Orlando), FL Karsun is a young R/L 2-way player as a LHP/1B. On the mound, he has a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot. He works to a tall balance point, maintains level shoulders and keeps his eyes on the target. FB ranges from 61-64 mph as he fills up the zone with strikes. Breaking ball has 1/7 shape while changeup shows sink and is thrown with FB arm speed. At 1B, Barrett hustles into a square fielding position and tracks the ball into his mitt. He makes the backhand play smoothly and gathers well. Offensively, this switch hitter currently sows more natural from the right side. He has a balanced approach with a solid base. He has rhythm to load, swings on a level path and drives through the zone with extension on his finish. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Lower 1/2 drive
Infield
1. Glove presentation
2. Angles to GB
Offense
1. Shorter/More direct swing path
2. Extension through contact

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
