11/08/2024 - Baseball Factory West Coast Fall Select Training & Competition (HS) Karter is a catcher and RHP from Rapid City, South Dakota, who will graduate in 2026. He recently enhanced his skill set at the Baseball Factory West Coast Fall Training in Arizona, where his abilities behind the plate were on full display. Karter showcased impressive arm strength, reaching an arm velocity of up to 75 mph with a pop time of 2.3 seconds, demonstrating his quick release and accurate throws to second base. His athletic actions and quick feet allow him to track pitches well and handle blocking situations with solid fundamentals, though improving his lateral movement on blocks would further elevate his defensive game. At the plate, Karter starts with a relaxed stance, keeping his hands high and loose, and uses an aggressive approach. His smooth swing and strong barrel control result in consistent line drives to all fields. He demonstrated his offensive prowess by reaching base on a double and two singles, showing excellent contact skills and the ability to drive the ball. On the mound, he demonstrated a solid pitching rhythm with good tempo and a clean gather, allowing him to stay balanced and pitch efficiently. Karter worked to stay ahead in counts, which helped him be effective with his offerings. He features a fastball, curveball, and slider, each showing potential as he continues to develop his command and sequencing. As a junior and a two-way player, Karter has plenty of room for growth in all areas of his game, and with continued development, he has the potential to make significant strides both offensively and defensively.

12/20/2023 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Karter is an athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner. Pop times shows in the 2.40 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works with through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. Karter went 3 for 8 during game play using the whole field. With 3 years to further develop, Karter has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
