Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

02/14/2010 - College PREP - Middleton, WI Keaton improved in several categories during his workout in Madison, WI. He is a slick fielder who presents his glove well and shows good hustle. Keaton works through the ball, gets rid of it quickly, and throws accurately across the diamond. He improved his arm grade from 42 to 45. Keaton is a solid 2B, and with added arm strength and physical maturity, Keaton can further improve. At the plate, Keaton has a good set-up, and a line drive approach. He works the ball up the middle of the field, and uses his lower 1/2 well. If Keaton can create more backspin on the baseball we could see power numbers climb.

12/27/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #2 Keaton participated in Pirate City as both a 2B and RHP and showed similar skills as he did back in 7/09. At 2B, Keaton's skills are fundamentally sound with accuracy. His hands and feet play well and should continue to improve with more experience. Keaton has smooth actions and footwork and has good baseball instincts. With added arms strength and live repetition, Keaton can further improve his skills. On the mound, Keaton has good control with his pitches and keeps the ball down in the zone. His mechanics are sound and he gets to his balance point well. Keaton fields his position well, but needs more extension and velocity for his pitching grades to further improve. Offensively, Keaton is a line drive hitter with the ability to hit to all fields. His strength will surprise you, as he hits the baseball into the gaps. With continued work on his grip and more strength and conditioning, Keaton can further improve his hitting skills.

07/14/2009 - Cape Cod Training 2009 - Week 2 Keaton continues to show steady improvements in his baseball abilities. He only showed as a 2B at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an average runner at 7.56. he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Arm strength has improved to slightly above average and he needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry. Defensively is where Huffman has improved the most. He shows a great feel for the game, always being in the right spot. Hands are soft and sure in making all the plays. At the plate, hitting abilities are slightly above average through a solid set up. He loads well and makes consistent contact showing a line drive approach. Power numbers will continue to increase as more overall body strength is added. On the mound Huffman showed us steady improvement. His velocity went up along with control and overall pitchability. He has an aggressive approach to pitching and goes after hitters. He will improve with a better balance point and limiting head movement throughout his delivery.

12/07/2008 - College PREP - McCook, IL Keaton is a young, two-position guy with similar ability at both spots. In the infield, he plays hard and has some quickness in his body. His hands need to soften and he is unsure with them right now. Tends to field the ball too deep. At the plate, He is square and balanced and sprays the ball around. Bat speed is ok and he has a level path. Would like to see him be more aggressive. On the mound, he is fluid with good rhythm and separation. Mechanics are consistent, but he needs to get more out of his front side. Overall strength needs to improve. He has a pretty good feel for the mechanics of the game, but needs to get stronger and quicker to utilize his strengths.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
