Official Scouting Report

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Yovan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities at 3B and on the mound with the makings of a draft type player in 2016. At 3B, defensive abilities are tremendous, displaying fluid / smooth actions. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he attacks balls and plays through well. He shows big play potential at 3B. At the plate, shows an athletic setup and has improved his power potential. He has raw strength with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields, displaying gap to gap pop. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, now showing at a pro level at 92 mph. Fastball showed a range of 87-92 mph with hard, heavy action on a downhill plane. All of his off speed stuff show as outstanding pitches that will get outs at the next level. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters, throwing strikes with all his pitches. Kenyon has the makings of a special type player with a promising future on the diamond, possibly as a two-way guy.

01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Yovan has a sturdy, solid build at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds. He pounded the zone with an 86-87 mph fastball, a pitch he naturally drives down through the zone. His actions bear some resemblance to Roger Clemens, especially his arm stroke which was of very slight depth from the glove and then compact and powerful out front. His breaking ball is a low to mid 70's pitch with 11-5 shape while his change is thrown around 80 and has flashed some sink action. Yovan also plays the hot corner where he is sure handed. He plays through the ball, working right to left and firing strong throws across the diamond. At the plate, he delivers the barrel with plus bat speed resulting in pop off of his barrel. He drives the ball to the gaps and will be a run producer.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
