01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Samuel showed smooth defensive actions along with good feel to play the ball. He played low, from the ground up, and did a good job of fielding the ball a bit left of center and working through it. He was better on balls across the infield than on double play feeds, and has some room to improve double play turns as well. Arm was loose and his throws had carry and life across the infield. At the plate, he showed some bat speed along with a loose, line drive stroke. He hit from an open stance, and never really got squared up with his stride. Tended to land late, and was never able to use his core to help deliver the barrel to contact. Has hand-eye coordination to build around as he improves his lower body action. On the mound, he topped at 84 with his fastball and did a good job of throwing strikes with the FB. Delivery was compact and simple, balance and direction were both good, and his arm worked well. Finish was a bit upright, can get chest out over front knee more to help improve extension through pitches. Overall, a talented and athletic player with some two-way potential.
