01/15/2010 - Vero Beach Spring Training & Competition - 2010 Butler jumped his top end fastball velocity by five mph since we last saw him, up from 72 to 77 mph. He competed well in the zone with all three of his pitches, and all three have potential to develop further. He can work to simplify his hand action and break of hands, will help him get his arm action in better sequence with his delivery. Must also work to finish better out front, needs to get his chest out over his front knee and get some drive from his hips and right side to finish. At the plate, he made regular contact on the barrel. Has strength and did a good job of seeing the ball deep into the hitting zone - allowing him to drive the ball to both the pull and off gaps. Needs to make sure he gets his stride foot down in time. Infield defensive skills are his biggest area for improvement. Needs to work on playing lower with his rear end and glove, and needs to improve agility and quickness with his feet. May be better suited to 1B. Overall, a young player with some upside and two-way potential.
