Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

06/06/2010 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Clifford continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and is now a solid class 4 type player. In the IF, he worked out at 3B and improved his defensive abilities. Feet and hands work well together through the fielding / throwing process. Feet are quick as he displays range in his lateral movements. Offensively, hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He utilizes all fields as he works to keep hands inside the ball. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 80-85 mph on a downhill plane. Changeup is best off speed pitch, showing a plus feel for with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape, tight spin and flashing late break. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Kevin has an upside and could possibly be a two-way player at the next level.

12/27/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #2 Kevin is a next level player with great makeup. He has a tall, lean build and runs well with a 7.04 60-yard dash. At SS, Kevin has good hands and feet and a smooth, easy arm. The baseball is thrown from a 3/4 arm slot and it has good life and carry. Kevin made all the routine plays during game play and has easy actions in the INF. Kevin can further improve his defensive abilities by fielding the baseball out in front of his body in a lower, more athletic fielding position. On the mound, Kevin has good athleticism, mound presence, and pitchability. He has a compact delivery, uses his legs well, and pitches around the zone. Kevin also has a good slide step, challenges hitters, and fields his position well. With added velocity and more command, Kevin's stock on the mound can quickly rise. At the plate, Kevin has good balance, bat speed, and a repeatable bat path. He hits the baseball hard and has strong gap power with backspin. Kevin's offensive numbers can improve if he can work on hitting the outside pitch to the opposite field.

10/25/2009 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Kevin is a two-way player on the mound plus at SS with a tall, lanky frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature, filling out. Foot speed is average as he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active but needs to be more aggressive in coming to get, playing through the baseball with his feet and hands, currently waits. Defensive abilities are near average with average arm strength in the middle of the IF as he needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, raising velocities. At the plate, Clifford has solid average abilities with slightly above average power through a solid setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a long, level swing path as he needs to work on keeping hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will increase as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 78-82 mph. Changeup is best off speed pitch showing a solid feel for with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with loose spin. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches, changing speeds well through a solid delivery. Kevin has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
