03/21/2010 - College PREP - Hightstown, NJ Kevin is a young, left handed hitter that Catches and plays 1B. Behind the plate, Kevin stays low, has a firm wrist, and has good flexion. He takes appropriate angles to block the baseball and covers the 5-hole well. Kevin gets in a good throwing position, gets rid of it quickly, and his throws are accurate to 2nd base. Kevin can improve behind the dish if he can work to gain ground, and strengthen his arm through long toss. At 1B, Kevin shows good footwork and fields the baseball out in front of his body. His hands are soft, he has a smooth backhand, and his throws have some life to them. Improved arm strength through long toss and looser body actions, should help his overall abilities improve. Offensively, Kevin looks confident at the plate and doesn't get cheated. He sprays the ball to all fields and has power into the gaps. Solid offensive numbers can improve if Kevin can avoid diving toward the ball, keep his hands high, and level off his swing. Overall, Kevin is a projectable 2-way player at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
