Official Scouting Report

07/24/2019 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Kevin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 76 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with early break. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.23 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. He shows a squared setup and receives the ball well. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball and shows a feel for the barrel through a solid line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

12/27/2018 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Kevin is an athletic and talented 2020 2-way prospect. Behind the dish, Kevin starts in a balance primary and athletic secondary stance. He presents a low target and works behind the ball. He leads with his glove when blocking and controls the ball with his body well. He has a good footwork but needs to have a quick exchange and release when throwing. At the plate, Kevin starts in a crouched stance, he keeps a quiet head, and stays balanced through contact. Continuing to load his hands back into the drive position and attacking the inside part of the ball will allow him to get extension through the ball. On the bump, Kevin competes and attacks both sides of the plate. He needs to continue to gather over the rubber, separate on time, and work downhill. Kevin is a hard worker and will continue to improve with experience.

09/02/2018 - College PREP - San Francisco, CA Kevin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Pop times showed in the 2.20 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft / clean and he sticks balls well in the zone through an athletic setup. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process and he is a wall benefit he plate. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 70-74 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength.

09/03/2017 - College PREP - San Francisco, CA Kevin is a stocky, solid C/SS who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average hitting / power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent hard contact with power showing best to the pull side. Behind the plate, feet are active in working in line to his target through a clean transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed a range 2.19-2.32 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He tracks balls well and sticks balls. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process and is a wall behind the plate. At SS, he displays clean actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper angles but needs to attack ball more and play through with his body. Glove action is soft but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. With 3 years to further develop, Kevin has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
