Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

06/03/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Folsom (Sacramento), CA Kevin continues to work hard to fine tune his skills. Defensively, this MIF hustles and is aggressive to get the GB. He tracks the ball into his mitt and gathers well. At the plate, this switch hitter continues to show more naturally from the right side. He lets the ball travel, squares it up and hits line-drives. On the mound, his 4-pitch arsenal will help to keep hitters guessing. FB still sits in the upper 60's as he throws it for strikes consistently. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with changeup and splitter have a little drop. McFarland (2019 grad) still has time to progress to get to where he wants to be.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Kevin is a lean 2019 two-way player who has shown impressive strides in his game. A switch-hitter, he has really improved his bat path from both sides and shows much more solid contact to all fields. He is athletic in the box to load and be on time with his front foot to launch. He is strong in his lower half and generates bat speed through the zone with solid balance to hit the ball where it is pitched. At second, he surrounds the ball to field, centering it to keep everything in front. He has a clean exchange and release and makes accurate feeds and throws on double play turns. On the mound, this right hander works ahead in the count by attack hitters with his fastball, keeping his eyes on target and extending through his release. He features the fastball at 67mph and complements it with an 11-5 curveball at 56mph. Loosening his arm action will unlock more velocity and movement on his pitches. Kevin is a player we will definitely keep an eye on moving forward.

09/03/2017 - College PREP - San Francisco, CA Kevin showed only on the mound for the first time at the event. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point. Fastball showed a range of 63-67 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

04/30/2017 - College PREP - Fairfield (Sacramento), CA Kevin is a hardworking 2B prospect who has a wiry frame and graduates in 2019. In the field, Kevin plays with active, quick footwork giving him the ability to cover good ground in each direction laterally. He receives the ball deep in his stance and his developing a quicker exchange. Kevin throws from an over the top arm slot with a long arm action. He looks especially smooth on double-play feeds. Kevin is a switch-hitter, who has closed setups and a firm front side with his weight in the back of his stance. He has a good eye and tracks the ball well. Kevin gets good extension with his hands. He shows solid contact to the pull side. Overall, Kevin has a good approach to the game and upside to get even better with development.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
