07/28/2009 - College PREP - Portland, ME Kevin is a young two-way player in the OF and at 1B with an athletic, thin frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is solid average and he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to aid in improving foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active and aggressive in taking proper routes and angles in tracking down balls in the OF. He goes back well but needs to learn to catch with two hands over the right side of his body. Release to throw is long and he will benefit by working to stay on top of his throws. Defensive abilities in the OF are slightly above average. In the IF, defensive abilities are average as he shows solid footwork around the bag with sure hands. Arm strength is average and he must get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry on throws. At the plate, Plant has slightly above average abilities with near average power through a balanced approach. Hands are quick, generating bat speed as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will increase as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. With 2 years to further develop, Kevin has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
