Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

09/19/2012 - Under Armour Fall Classic Kevin showed as a two-way player at the event at 1B plus on the mound for the first time. Currently, he projects best in the 1B for the next level. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean as he consistently shows the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. At the plate, he shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 70-75 mph. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches and works to get ahead of hitters.

06/22/2012 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Kevin worked out at both 1st base and on the mound during his time in Omaha. Defensively, Kevin squares his body well to the ball, his hands are clean, and he stays on the balls of his feet. He has an accurate arm to his target. On the mound, Kevin has a loose arm, good balance, and he keeps his eyes on target. He has good direction toward home and works on a downhill plane. At the plate, Kevin lets the ball travel well and he creates good separation. He squares the ball up well and has power potential.

04/29/2012 - College PREP - Rochester, NY Kevin is a big, tall, 2-way player who plays 1B and 3B. He currently projects equal at both positions. Defensively, Kevin has sure hands, active feet, and he fields in a low / square position. He fields out in front, makes plays, and his range is solid. Kevin has a long arm action, and he throws with accuracy and average strength to his target. An earlier glove, quicker exchange, and using more lower 1/2 to throw will help INF abilities improve. Offensively, Kevin has a square set-up, a proper load, and a short stride. He has good balance, fast bat speed, and he makes square / consistent contact. Kevin finds the barrel well and can improve hitting by staying short and driving the ball to the opposite field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
