Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

06/17/2010 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Kody showed improvements in his game since his last workout in Murray, UT. He is a tall, solid, player, that currently projects better at 1B than on the mound. Defensively, Kody works well around the bag and he makes plays on balls hit his way. He is a good sized target, he stretches well, and he can pick the ball out of the dirt. Defensive abilities can improve if Kody can work to field the ball in a lower, more athletic fielding position. On the mound, Kody has good direction toward the plate and has a decent arm action. He has an idea of the zone and he gets his pitches over the plate for strikes. If Kody can improve his mechanics, loosen his front leg, and add arm strength, mound effectiveness will get better. Offensively, Kody has strong hands and a short / downhill swing path. He is a patient hitter with a good feel for the strike zone. Hitting can get better if Kody can get his front foot down sooner and make better use of his lower 1/2.

05/29/2010 - College PREP - Murray, UT Kody is a strong, athletic, 2-way player that Pitches and plays 1B. On the mound, Kody repeats his delivery and is in-line with his stride. He makes decent use of his legs and has solid arm speed. Kody is around the zone with his FB, but will need to add arm strength and get more extension with his pitches for abilities to further improve. At 1B, Kody has good feel around the bag and has a low approach. He makes plays on balls hit his way and a good feel with his backhand. Lighter feet, a quicker exchange, and more carry on his throws will help defensive grades improve. At the plate, Kody puts the ball in play and shows his strength when he centers the baseball. He has some pop in his bat, and with more bat speed and more direct hands to the ball, offensive grades can spike.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
