Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SSPosition Projection

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Wilson showed only as a SS at the event with a promising future on the diamond. In the MIF, he moves well laterally, displaying range and shows soft / sure hands. Feet / hands work well through the fielding actions, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Athletic abilities are shown off in his feeds / turn of the double play and has big play potential in the MIF. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields.

09/17/2014 - Under Armour Fall Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Kurt is a young, solid 2017 SS who had a great week defensively. At SS, he takes good angles to ground balls and displays sure hands. He has a good arm action for a developing SS with the abiity to throw from multiple arm angles. Being more fluid with his footwork will help him increase lateral range. Offensively, he displays good balance and rhythm to load. He tracks the ball well into the zone and delivers the barrel with quick hands. Developing more overall strength will be key for Kurt moving forward. He has a lot of upside and should start catching the eye of college coaches as he matures.

05/11/2014 - College PREP - College Station, TX Kurt is a tall, lean RHP/SS that will graduate in 2017. Currently, he projects best at SS for the next level but has an upside on the mound. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with solid power through an athletic setup. He loads well with hands generating plus bat speed to and through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more. At SS, foot speed is superior as indicated by his 6.84 60 time. Defensive abilities are well above average as he displays clean / athletic actions. He attacks ground balls, playing through well, while presenting soft / sure hands well out front. Lateral movement is a plus as he displays range in the MIF. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Throws are accurate with on line carry across the diamond as he gets rid of the baseball quickly, displaying well above average arm strength. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 78-79 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual shape. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on mound will continue to develop as he builds more arm strength, develops better off speed pitches, and works to throw more strikes. With 3 years to further develop, Wilson has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
