11/12/2023 - National Showcase - Orange (Los Angeles), CA Kurtis continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the plate he shows a squared setup and tracks the ball well with a soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, deadening every ball in the dirt. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.00 with accuracy / carry on his throws. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind ball and plays through with momentum to his target. At the plate, he showed as a switch hitter with solid hitting / power potential from both sides. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach.

09/27/2023 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic (2024) Kurtis is a strong (5 ft 10/180) switch-hitting catcher in the 2025 class. Behind the plate, he has a relaxed feel and is an excellent target for his staff. Tracks the ball in well and keeps his eyes behind the baseball to maintain the strike zone. Gains ground on his throws and displays a quick exchange. Registered a 2.15 pop and his throws have life and accuracy to the bag. At the plate, he begins in a balanced set-up. Hands are loose and creates a small and simple load from either side. Maintains body control and hands are fast at 82-84 exit velo. Path is in the zone to generate line drive production. Can run for a catcher on the bags and gets excellent reads off the bat. Overall, Kurtis is a great backstop and has the offensive tools to help a college program.

07/21/2023 - National Showcase - Orange (Los Angeles), CA Kurtis continues to show as a prospect with his baseball abilities on the diamond. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. Pop times showed in 2.12 range with accuracy (on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss. At the plate, he continues to shine through a tall, squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-71 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

06/09/2023 - 2023 Baseball Factory All-State Tournament Kurtis continues to shine on the diamond. This time, at the All-State event. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Pop times showed in the 2.08 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to produce through a crouched setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn.

04/16/2023 - National Showcase - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Kurtis is a strong and athletic C/OF in the 2024 class. Behind the plate, he has quick feet and presents a low target. He tracks the baseball well and shows advanced pocket feel. Keeps his thumb under the pitch and can maintain the strike zone. Blocks well and his movements are simple and quiet and is effective. Arm action is short and is accurate to the bag at 2.05 pop. In the OF, his feet are quick and works hard to get behind the baseball. Shows solid routes and stays inside the baseball. Arm works and is effective to shut down the free 90’s on the bases. At the plate, he is quick to the zone with loose hands. Likes to stay inside the baseball with a direct path and shows solid pop at 82 exit velo. Working to use the whole field will be a key point as he advances to higher level. Overall, Kurtis is a solid player with a bright future.

03/26/2023 - National Showcase - San Marcos (San Diego), CA Kurtis continues to show as a prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate he shows a squared setup and tracks the ball well with soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.06 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 2B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn.

Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

02/19/2023 - National Showcase - Orange (Los Angeles), CA Kurtis is a strong, athletic catcher who is a prospect on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner. Pop times showed in 2.15 range with accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying excellent hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. Kurtis has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
