08/11/2010 - College PREP - Bear (Wilmington), DE Kyle is a young two-way player at 1B plus as a catcher with a stocky frame that shows projection as he continues to polish, firming up. At 1B, he makes routine plays but needs to be more aggressive with his feet in coming to get, playing through the baseball with his body. Glove action is clean but deep due to feet stopping through the fielding process. Behind the plate, he gains ground with his feet, working in line and shows proper direction to his target. Pop times show a range of 2.78-3.00 with a means of 2.89. Throws show accuracy but must get on a long toss program to further develop more carry and arm strength. Receiving and blocking skills are below average, needing further development to be quality tools at the next level. Offensively, Chipman shows a level swing path but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential at the plate with grades improving quickly with instructions and adjustments. With 2 years to further develop, Kyle has abilities with time and room to improve.
