01/15/2010 - Vero Beach Spring Training & Competition - 2010 Duran improved his 60-yard dash by nearly a full second, down from 9.14 to 8.21. He showed some leadership ability behind the plate, and did a good job of being vocal. More importantly for a young player, he showed a strong desire to get better. Improving lower body strength and balance will help improve his receiving and blocking skills, and he needs to develop his arm strength as well. Release times were between 2.9 and 3.0. At the plate, he showed some bat speed and raw power to the pull side. Was patient during at bats and showed some strike zone knowledge. Can work to land more square with his stride foot, and to stay softer with his left arm to load - will help him shorten his swing, tended to get out and around the ball in his path to contact. Overall, a young catcher/corner infielder with some offensive potential.
