12/27/2009 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic 2009 Kyle is a young catcher with an athletic frame that is well suited for his position. Footwork is a plus behind the plate as he works directly to his target but needs to work on improving foot quickness. Pop times shows a range of 2.47-2.75 with time lowering as he develops more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving and blocking skills are average to near average needing further development to be quality tools at the next level. He is a good communicator and displays plus leadership skills from behind the plate. Offensively, McAlister displays a short, level swing path as he utilizes the entire field, keeping hands inside the ball showing a line drive approach. Power numbers will increase as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. With 2 years to further develop, Kyle has potential with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
