04/25/2010 - College PREP - Cedar Hill, TX Kyler's arm strength and raw power improved from 42 to 45. He also displayed his best home to 1st time at 4.35. At 6'4, 195 lb, he has potential to continue to improve his power grades. He had good extension through the baseball and showed middle to gap power. He'll need more use of backside in his swing to maximize the power potential he has. In the outfield, he takes good angles to the baseball and tries to use proper crow hop. Exhange is slow at times. On the mound, his body gives him immediate presence, and more fundamental use of the lower half will help him utilize the strength he possesses. Along with his fastball, curveball and change-up, he is trying to get a feel for a cutter, which could be an effective pitch for him down the road. He has good arm action, which gives him strong upside from a velocity standpoint. Overall, he has a lot left in the tank and has time to fine tune his game in all areas.

06/13/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Brown improved his 60-yard dash slightly, down from 7.08 to 7.04. His outfield arm strength and fielding ability both improved to slightly above average. Can still work to be more aggressive to the ball, and has room to further develop his arm strength. At the plate, he was a good contact hitter with fairly quick hands. Can work to improve his balance, and needs to make sure to stride square - tended to bail a bit. On the mound, he threw a lot of strikes with his fastball and was a bit deceptive in his delivery. Some work to shorten his stride will keep him in a more athletic position to deliver his pitches. Fastball velocity wasn't to level we saw previously (72-78 in December 08, 68-71 this time out), and he needs to work to stay on top of his breaking ball better. Overall, a tall and lanky young player with some speed and the makings of a solid hitter.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
