Official Scouting Report

  • C/3BPosition Projection

06/21/2024 - College World Series Experience - Session 2 Laiken is a strong athletic 6ft/170 C/3B in the 2026 class. At the Omaha experience, he impressed with his catching talents and high baseball IQ. Behind the plate, he is an excellent receiver and keeps his thumb under the baseball. And arm plays at 81 (2.21 pop). He shows a quick transfer and carry on his throws. Shows a solid eye at the plate with 3 BB’s on the week. Also collected 2 hits with several quality at bats. Swing is compact and his barrel accuracy is on-plane. Overall, Laiken is a solid leader and player to keep an eye on in the 2026 class.

12/29/2023 - National Showcase - New Orleans, LA Laiken is a C/3B prospect who will graduate in 2026. Behind the dish he works his thumb under baseball and keeps his eyes behind his mitt. Shows good body control and has an athletic secondary stance. Gains ground to second base as he made on-line throws with an arm velocity up to 78mph and a best pop time of 2.18 seconds. Shows a good pre-pitch routine at third base. His athleticism shows as he closes distance on batted balls. Can throw from multiple arm slots with active feet. At the plate he hits from an upright and closed stance. Takes an aggressive swing with ability to keep hands inside the ball. He has a direct hand path with a high finish. Hit balls to the pull side during his round of BP. With 2 years of continued growth and development, we foresee this 2-way prospect improving his skillsets.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
