03/03/2013 - College PREP - Austin, TX At Lee's latest Factory outing, he only showed as a pitcher. Lee showed three different pitches from the 3/4 arm slot with loose, quick arm action. His shoulders remain level and he stays in line to the dish. Remaining closed with his lower half will help him generate more leg torque and eventual velocity increase. Offensively, he swings from the right side with a contact approach, and extension through contact. As with his pitching, there is more untapped lower half use that will increase bat speed and power. In all, we look forward to tracking Lee's senior season and his decision for the coming fall.

01/13/2012 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Serna showed as a two-way player for the first time showing as a LHP/1B. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a solid runner at 7.39. Feet are active as he works to square up groundballs will presenting hands out front. He is a solid receiver displaying proper footwork around the bag. Throws display accuracy and carry into his target. At the plate, Lee shows a balanced approach and has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. He loads well but needs to work on keeping hands inside the ball to utilize all fields and improve hitting grade. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 69-71 mph with changeup displaying cutting action. He did not show a breaking ball in his inning of work.

11/20/2011 - College PREP - Houston, TX Lee is a average build LHP who graduates in 2013. On the mound, he throws 4 pitches from a 3/4 arm slot. He comes to a controlled balance point, has on-time separation and stays in-line to his target. His FB ranges from 74-78 mph and his CB shows a sweeping action with gradual break. He needs to try and stay smooth throughout his delivery and finish in an athletic position with extension towards his target for mound effectiveness to improve. Offensively, he shows a square setup and has good pitch selection. He has average bat speed and gets good extension thru contact. His hitting abilities will improve if he can create more separation, relax his grip and use more of his lower 1/2. Lee has time to improve and work hard.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
