05/28/2011 - College PREP - Salt Lake City, UT Valdez continues to show some improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.00 runner. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls in the OF. He is aggressive in his plays but needs to work on his footwork and transfer / exchange to get rid of the ball quicker. Arm strength has improved as he shows carry on his throws but needs to improve accuracy. Offensively, Levi continues to show as a switch hitter and makes consistent contact but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving quickly with instruction and adjustments.

03/06/2011 - College PREP - Las Vegas, NV Levi is a young, thin, switch hitting OF who will graduate in 2012. Defensively, Levi is aggressive to the baseball, he takes proper angles, and he makes the routine plays. He shows good speed, he centers the ball on his body well, and his exchange is clean. Levi currently has an average arm with accuracy to his target. OF skills can get better if Levi can lower his approach, break down sooner, and add arm strength. At the plate, Levi has a tall set-up, good balance and he attacks the ball. His swing is level from both sides, he makes consistent contact, and his swing is more athletic from the left side. More lower 1/2, and added bat speed will help both lefty and right numbers rise.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
