11/03/2012 - 2012 Team One Futures Series Texas Logan has an athletic lean frame. On the mound he showed a late explosive fastball with velocities from 84-89mph. He was in line with his target and had quick arm action. He struck out three out of the five batters faced.

06/17/2011 - USA Baseball 16U Championships (AZ) - 2011 Logan continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a solid average runner at 7.28. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well behind the plate as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange, improving his release. Pop times have improved with more consistency as he displays a range of 2.12-2.25 with an average of 2.18. Primary stance is solid as he has flexibility but needs to work on his secondary stance to improve blocking skills and lateral movements. Offensively, Ashworth shows an athletic setup with hands working directly to the baseball. He needs to stay tall on the backside and transfer weight properly from the backside into a firm front side for power grades to improve. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and show a feel for the barrel to the pull side. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 78-82 mph with late arm side run. He throws a 2 seam fastball that displays 2 actions. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch displaying 11/4 shape with tight spin and gradual break but needs to develop a more consistent release point for better command / control. Changeup shows good rotation but lacks control. He has an upside on the mound through a loose, long arm action. With 3 years to further develop, Logan has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his abilities on the mound. He has outstanding makeup and works hard to improve with a desire to be the best he can.

12/27/2010 - Christmas Camp and Tournament 2010 - Session 2 Ashworth showed similar above-average abilities as he had previously shown in Cape Cod. Arm strength is a plus as he shows a powerful, accurate arm. Behind the plate, arm action is long, creating a slow release, and his pop times will be much better with a quicker release. Receiving and blocking skills continue to show as quality tools. At the plate, Logan showed a balanced approach with good extension through the ball, flashing gap power. Swing was extremely rhythmic and he showed the ability to hit the ball back up-the-middle. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 80-82 mph on a slight downhill plane. Off speed pitches display potential as being quality pitches as he continues to develop. He is a great kid that is very coachable and he plays the game hard.

07/20/2010 - Cape Cod Training 2010 - Session 3 Logan is a young (2014) two-way player on the mound plus as a catcher with an athletic looking frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Feet are active working in line, gaining ground with his target as he displays a solid transfer / exchange in getting rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.16-2.50 with a means of 2.36. Throws display life, carry, and accuracy into his target. Receiving and blocking skills flash potential as being quality tools as he continues to develop. Offensively, Ashworth shows an athletic setup with hands working directly to the baseball, generating bat speed. Swing path is level as he works hands through the ball at contact, displaying extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-78 mph on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball is tight and shows a lot of potential of being a quality pitch. With 4 years to further develop, Logan has a lot of potential with the makings to be a special type player as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
