05/07/2023 - National Showcase - Clinton, IA Lucas is a 2024 C prospect with a strong frame at 5'7" 182 pounds. Behind the plate, he shows off efficient feet and plus flexibility. He features impressive athleticism and does a great job of getting in a low, squared position when receiving. He gives his pitchers a good target out in front and has good pocket awareness. His exchange is clean and he has a nice, short arm action when making throws. He does a good job of gaining ground and squaring off balls in the dirt while also deadening the ball. At the plate, he starts in an athletic crouch while being slightly open. He gets a short stride and good back load. His rhythm is impressive and smooth and he does a good job of staying balanced throughout his swing. He has a firm frontside with his lower half and displays fast bat speed and good barrel feel. He does a great job of staying direct to and inside of the baseball, making hard consistent contact from gap to gap. Overall, he is a very impressive prospect and one that should have a great chance to play at the next level!

02/19/2023 - National Showcase - Monticello, IA Lucas is a strong catcher in the 2024 class. Behind the plate, he has effective feet and centers his body to the baseball. Shows a relaxed athletic feel in his movements. His hands are sure when receiving the baseball and can maintain the strike zone. His transfers are clean and gains a short high ¾ release. The release is quick and working to throw the top of the baseball and stay in his legs will provide further carry. At the plate, he begins in an open stance and uses a short stride. Gains proper separation and is timing is smooth. Stays inside his feet well and is explosive with his back side. Path is on-plane and he can create hard contact (90 exit velo). Overall, Lucas is a player to watch in the 2024 class.

09/21/2022 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic (2024) Lucas continues to show as a prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate he shows a squared setup and tracks the ball well with soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.05 with accuracy / on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn.

02/13/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Monticello, IA Lucas is a C/2B prospect who will graduate in 2024. Medium frame athletic build with strength present. Behind the dish, has an easy sit to start, with efficient feet, and presents a low target and has good pocket awareness. Works around the baseball and gains ground towards second base with good direction. Creates good blocking angles and tucks chin. Throws from a high 3/4 release point, with a short arm stroke in back, and has an arm velocity up to 75mph and a best pop time of 2.2 seconds. At 2B, he works to center the baseball with ability to pick out hops and showed good footwork. Fields out front with a low funnel and keeps his eyes behind glove. Made consistent throws from a 3/4 arm slot to first base. At the plate, he hits from an athletic and open stance. Simple and repeatable swing, with quiet actions, and has good feel for the barrel. Is centered at contact and has a fast barrel through the hitting zone. A direct hand path enables him to square up balls into both gaps with a bat exit velocity up to 85mph. With 2 years of continued growth and development, we foresee him having a bright future on the baseball field.

07/27/2021 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (HS) Lucas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.31 and will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a squared setup and presents a soft mitt out front and utilizes his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact and stays inside the ball through a line drive approach, flashing gap to gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

02/14/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Monticello, IA Lucas continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a firm mitt but needs to present target earlier. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Pop times showed in the 2.44 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss. At the plate he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, flashing gap to gap pop.

10/25/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Stillwater (Minneapolis), MN Lucas is an athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Pop times showed in 2.40 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying well above average hitting / power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach with gap-to-gap pop. With 4 years to further develop, Lucas has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
