12/27/2010 - UA Recruiting Classic - 2010 Lucas is a catcher with a big, strong frame that is well suited for his position. Feet are active in working in line with his target through a clean transfer / exchange. He will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness. Pop times show a range of 2.10-2.25 with a means of 2.18. Arm strength is a plus with throws showing carry and accuracy into his target. Receiving and blocking skills are average, needing further development to be quality tools at the next level. Offensively, David shows a balanced approach with hands working through a level swing path. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed but needs to work on keeping hands through the baseball at contact. He has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off his bat when centered, displaying fence power. In addition to his baseball skills, Lucas is a good listener and is coachable.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
