Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

08/01/2012 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 DeSantis showed at a LHP/1B at the event. Currently, he projects slightly better on the mound for the next level. Arm action is loose, easy, and works well to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 70-74 mph on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating well to both sides of the plate. At 1B, he displays proper footwork and is a solid receiver at the bag. Hands are soft, clean, and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt saving throws. At the plate, Lucas shows a balanced approach with rhythm. He shows good extension with his hands through the ball at contact with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and works very hard.

05/06/2012 - College PREP - Lakewood (Denver), CO Lucas is a young athletic LHP that will graduate in 2015. On the mound, Lucas has a long /free arm action with good extension and leverage. Throws his fastball for strikes, his curveball has a 2/8 shape with near fastball arm speed. Maintains arm speed with his changeup with good glove side run. Lucas can continue to improve by focusing on staying closed with his front side and finishing his pitches. Offensively, Lucas displays gap-to-gap power but needs to focus on letting the ball travel. His hitting grades will improve when he develops a square stride and load. With 3 years to further develop and hard work Lucas shows potential to play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
