06/28/2009 - Team One West 2009 Lucas did a fine job at the showcase, perhaps showing best as pitcher. He sat in the low 80's and touched 84 mph on occasion. His delivery is sound from the waist up, and can utilize his lower body better, for further extension, which will lead to increased velocity. He did a solid job working down in the strike zone as he retired 8 of the 9 batters he faced. On the field he was adequate with his glove skills, and showed some areas that need refining. His fielding technique was slightly off, as he fielded balls deep in his stance, which caused him to stab at the ball, however, he did show the ability to make adjustments on tough hops. At the plate, Lucas hit the ball where it was pitched. He used all fields with a line drive approach. He shows good leverage, but was slightly inconsistent with his barrel accuracy. An improvement that will help him center the ball with consistency is in keeping his hands inside the ball. His stroke will be quicker and shorter to contact which can help him reach the next level.
