06/17/2010 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Luis is an athletic player that plays 2B and OF. During his time in Omaha, he showed better in the INF. Luis has a soft glove, he moves well laterally, and he keeps the ball in front of his body. Luis makes plays on balls hit his way and throws accurately to his target. If Luis can add arm strength, and follow his throws to his target, abilities can improve. In the OF, Luis gets decent reads off the bat and take okay routes to the ball. He again, throws accurately to his target from the OF. Offensively, Luis has a good set-up and a rhythmic swing. He puts the bat on the ball, and works the middle of the field. Increased strength and bat speed will help offensive numbers get better.

01/18/2010 - College PREP - Tucson, AZ Luis is a two-way player at 2B plus in the OF with a strong looking body that shows projection as he continues to polish, firming up. At 2B, feet are active but needs to be more aggressive in playing through the baseball with feet / hands. He plays hard and is not afraid to get dirty as he moves well laterally. Glove action is soft, clean but deep due to feet stopping through the fielding process. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he plays through ground balls aggressively. He needs to work behind fly balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Range will improve as more foot speed is developed. Throws are on line displaying some carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly in the IF and OF but will benefit from a long toss program. Offensively, Morales makes consistent contact through a balanced approach but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching full potential with grades improving quickly with instruction and adjustments at the plate. Luis has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
