03/20/2022 - All-In Membership - Greensboro, NC Maddux showed well behind the plate and at 1B during his last workout in Greensboro. Behind the dish, Maddux holds a low target, footwork is efficient, and he sits in low and squarely. He tracks to his glove, his exchange is quick and clean, and he throws with a quick/consistent arm to 2nd base. At 1B, Maddux has soft hands and good footwork around the bag. He presents well, picks it clean out of the dirt, and throws with carry and accuracy to his target. Quicker feet and added range will only help abilities at 1B improve. At the plate, Maddux has a square/athletic stance, good balance, and a fluid/rhythmic swing. He has a short/direct barrel, good bat speed, and he works the ball gap to gap. An earlier front foot and more lower 1/2 will help spike hitting numbers.

12/27/2021 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Maddux is a C/RHP prospect in the 2023 class. Maddux has a solid frame (6'1/228) and is quiet behind the plate. His relaxed receiving approach creates a strong target for his pitchers. He presents a firm glove and keeps his eyes behind the baseball. He exchanges are clean and his feet get squared to his target properly (2.15 pop). His throws have carry (77 velo) and are around the bag. His body is on time to block the baseball and he replaces his feet quickly. On the mound, he operates with a 2 pitch mix. His FB topped at 81 with late run and sink actions. He locates the FB with consistency and can control it to both sides of the plate. His CB sat 70-72 with tight 10/4 shape and spin. His delivery is simple and can be repeated with ease. At the plate, he can produce hard contact (84 exit velo). He has an athletic set up and is square during his stride. Staying tall in his swing with allow him to gain extension on more backspin on the baseball. Overall, Maddux is a solid two way prospect that will play at the next level.

Baseball Factory Opening Day Classic with Video Showcase (HS - East) Maddux is a class of 2023 C/RHP prospect. Behind the plate, he does a good job working through the baseball and creating consistent and accurate throw downs. He does a good job deadening the baseball when blocking as well as tucking his chin to create good blocking angles. His throws come from a short arm action and are online. At the plate, he showed good feel for the barrel both in game and in the cage. He had quick hands and showed the ability to drive the baseball to all parts of the field. On the mound, he threw all pitches from a high ¾ arm slot and worked both sides of the plate. He also showed an ability to control the run game and field his position. He worked his fastball up to 75 MPH. He showed a good ability to get hitters out in game and only allowed 2 runs through his innings of work and recorded 2 K’s. Maddux is a good player that we hope to see playing at the next level.

10/10/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Charlotte, NC Maddux is a tall, strong C/1B who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange as the gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the 2.25 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He displays soft hands and sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to get body down sooner. At 1B, defensive abilities are solid as he shows smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean and presents well out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases his foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with excellent power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Lower half works well through the swing as he maintains balance. With 2 years to further develop, Maddux has potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
