10/17/2020 - Fall Pro Training Experience - NC (HS) Makai continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.14. In the OF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Feet are active as he works to get behind balls and plays with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 1 for 4 with a 2B.

03/01/2020 - National Tryout Plus - Wilson, NC Makai is a hard working OF who continues to make strides in his game. Speed has improved as he ran his best 60 yard time to date; 7.16. In the OF, he takes a quick first step and is aggressive to track down fly-balls. He secures the ball with soft hands and has a clean transfer to throw (75 mph). Continuing to strengthen his arm (long toss program) will aid in his development in the OF. With the bat, this righty shows an open setup while remaining balanced throughout. Swing is short/compact/level as he squares the ball up and looks to drive the middle of the field. Increased power will come with more drive from his lower 1/2. A 2022 grad - Allen has a solid skill-set with still time to progress.

08/05/2019 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Makai is an athletic and talented 2022 2-way prospect that worked hard all week. In the OF, Makai is on time with his prep step, he has a good first step to the ball, and creates angles in his routes. He needs to continue to build arm strength and improve his exchange when throwing. At the plate, Makai starts in a squared stance, he has a good setup, and keeps a quiet head. He needs to continue to activate his hands and create separation in his load. Getting his front foot down on time will improve his ability to recognize pitches. He has pull side approach and did a good job on the bases. On the bump, Makai has confidence in his fastball, challenges hitters down in the zone, and has good direction in his delivery. He has a clean arm stroke, works down hill, and separates on time. Makai will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

03/10/2019 - College PREP - Raleigh, NC Makai is an athletic OF prospect who will graduate in 2022. In the field, Makai covers ground well and fields with a firm glove. He works through the ball and throws from a high 3/4 angle. Getting into a lower fielding position can help Makai improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He takes a level swing and produces solid line drives. Makai can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. With three more years to develop, Makai has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
