06/18/2021 - Baseball Factory All-State Tournament (HS) Makai is a SS/RHP who graduated in 2021. Tall frame, with high waist, and athletic build with plenty of room to add throughout. Ran a 6.83 60-yard dash. At SS, active/efficient feet and a good pre-pitch routine enable him to move lateral. Good rhythm to actions with good fielding angles. Works into a athletic/square fielding position with some feel for glove pocket. Long/loose arm action into a 3/4 arm slot with a recorded arm velocity of 88mph. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a fast arm. Keeps eyes on target and showed ability to work in/out. Works off of his FB that sat 83-85mph while mixing in a 11/5 shaped slider. Threw 65% of his pitches for strikes, with 5 strikeouts, and induced weak contact in 4 innings of work. A right-handed hitter who hits from an upright and open stance. Showed an aggressive approach at the plate and ability to make hard contact. In live game action, Makai was 4-6 with a triple, double, 2 singles, and 2 base on balls. He hit hard line drives with a bat exit velocity of 91mph. With continued development, we foresee him having a bright future on the baseball field.

10/07/2020 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Makai is a coachable, athletic SS/RHP prospect who showed well during the Arizona Fall Classic. In the field, Makai works light on his feet and shows great first step quickness. His hands are sure as he fields softly and fires strong throws across the diamond. At the plate, this RHH maintains center balance and gets his hands activated on time. He works through a level swing with plus bat speed, producing loud contact and gap to gap power. He battles at the plate collecting 3 singles and a walk at the event. On the mound, Makai operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 83mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits at 64mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 73-74mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. He gets strong glove-side lead and fills up the zone with strikes. Overall, Makai is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

09/13/2020 - National Evaluation and Tryout - San Bernardino, CA Makai continues to show as a prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.08 runner. At SS, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth/fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to get around balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with on line carry (85 mph exit velocity) to his target. At the plate, hitting/power potential are now outstanding through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 78-80 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run/sink. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/22/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Bernardino, CA Makai is an athletic SS/RHP who is a prospect on the diamond. At SS, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth/athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with zip (86 mph velocity) across the diamond. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 81 mph. Fastball shows good tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch with arm side run/sink. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. Makai has big upside and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
