10/13/2018 - Mid-Atlantic Regional Hitting Weekend (Ages 14-18) Malakai is a lanky prospect that worked hard and made several adjustments during the Mid-Atlantic Hitting Camp. At the plate, Malakai starts in a closed stance and chokes the bat. He needs to loosen his grip and load his hands back into the drive position. He gets his front foot down on time, keeps a middle approach, and shows the ability to create pull side lift. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball and keeping his head down at contact, will help him get extension thru the ball. Malaki will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/08/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Rochester, NY Malakai is a thin and talented 2019 2B prospect. At 2B, Malakai has range on both sides of the ball and makes the routine play. Continuing to present a low/early glove, and funneling the ball into his body will allow him to get into a strong throwing position. At the plate, Malakai starts in a squared stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He stays connect through the ball and uses all fields. Malakai will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Malakai is a lean 2B/3B who will graduate in 2019. At the plate is where he shows best through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a compact swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. In the IF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he takes good first steps in attacking the baseball. Glove action is soft / clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 2 years to further develop, Malakai has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
